Abstract: This paper outlines the main properties of iron oxide nanoparticles and their various applications. Many novel approaches are described in the use of photoelectrochemistry such as solar energy conversion, water splitting, photocatalysts for the removal of organic and inorganic species from aqueous or gas phase. The nanocrystalline semiconductor thin films are shortly described. Also, we describe briefly the core shell and core-shell-shell structures. Nnanocomposites structures with particularly interesting architectures in photocatalysts is presented. Extremely modern various shapes and dimensions of iron oxide nanomaterials are reminded, such as nanowires, nanorods, nanotubes, hollow fibers, snowflake-like, and ring-like.
