The Communicative Approach is a modern teaching approach based on the concept of learning a language through having to communicate real meaning. In the Communicative Approach, real communication is both the objective in learning and the means through which it takes place. This approach was initiated during the 1970’s and quickly became prominent, as it proposed an alternative to the previous systems-oriented approaches. In other words, instead of focusing on the acquisition of grammar and vocabulary, the Communicative Approach aims at developing students’ competence to communicate in the target language with an enhanced focus on real-life situations. To put it in a nutshell, the Communicative Approach considers using the language to be just as important as actually learning the language.en_US
