dc.description.abstract This paper is focused on the study of multicast routing protocols in IPv4 and IPv6. The work is backed up by the practical experiments, using the GateD software routing suite on RedHat Linux platform for IPv4, and pim6sd and pim6dd on FreeBSD for IPv6. The architecture used by the experiments revealed the operation of the following routing protocols: DVMRP, PIM-SM and PIM-DM in IPv4/IPv6. The deployment of a multicast testbed is more complex than for a unicast one. It involves a multicast traffic source, at least one member for that multicast group and the multicast routers. en_US
