dc.description.abstract In addition to a wide range of specialized terms and expressions, legal texts are also characterized by the presence of a large number of words which belong to the common vocabulary, but which are assigned either special or vague meanings in this type of discourse. The paper discusses some semantic peculiarities presented by texts belonging to the category of the EU legislation, pointing to the problems that the Romanian translator of such texts might encounter en_US
