Abstract: Maintaining fuel and air flow rates at optimum levels during load variation, start-up and shut down and regulating pressure are the fundamental crisis to be sorted out first for improving the performance and reliability of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC). In this paper, a Direct Active Fuzzy PI controller is developed and used to regulate the pressure of the reactants on anode and cathode side by controlling the flow rates of the reactants. The simulation results reveal that PEMFCs equipped with the proposed Direct Active Fuzzy PI controller exhibit better transient performances than the simple PI controller and nonlinear controller reported earlier.
